Estimation of Optimum Parameters for Obtaining Enhanced QoS in a Virtualized Server Consolidated Cloud Environment

There has been a recent interest among many researchers regarding the QoS support for media streaming in a cloud environment [6]. Improper consolidation of server resources degrades the Quality of Service rendered to the customers [3][8]. The main objective of the proposed system is to optimize server consolidation for better utilization of resources to enhance the QoS for the customers. Consolidation of server resources with the help of scheduler that allocates resources based on parameters such as number of CPU cycles and weight (number of times a VM gets scheduled), by virtualizing the server using multiple virtual machines provides the required QoS. Metrics such as throughput, delay, jitter, bandwidth utilization are measured using experimental setup with Eucalyptus as cloud platform. The implementation shows that loss is higher when CPU allocated to a virtual machine is lesser. VM is not able to handle the packets correctly and more loss occurs which increases transmission time. Dynamically allocating more CPU and increasing the weight improves the throughput of the system and decreases packet loss.
